Exam / Selection Pattern

  • Paper I (Mathematics): 120 Qs, 300 marks, 2.5 hours. Topics: Algebra, Matrices, Trigonometry, Calculus, Statistics, Vector Algebra.
  • Paper II (GAT): 150 Qs, 600 marks, 2.5 hours. English (200 marks) + GK covering Physics, Chemistry, History, Geography, Polity, Current Affairs (400 marks).
  • Negative marking: 1/3 mark per wrong answer in both papers.
  • SSB: 5-day personality assessment – Psychological Tests (TAT, WAT, SRT, SDT), Group Tasks (GTO), Personal Interview.

Selection Process

  1. 1UPSC Written Examination – Maths (300 marks) + General Ability Test (600 marks)
  2. 2Services Selection Board (SSB) Interview – 5 days at one of the 5 SSBs
  3. 3Medical Examination at service hospital
  4. 4Final merit list based on Written + SSB scores

Important Notes

  • PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Maths) in Class 12 is mandatory for Naval Wing, Air Force Wing, and NA entry. Army Wing accepts any stream.
  • SSB is the critical bottleneck — only ~10–15% of written qualifiers are recommended. Start SSB preparation alongside written exam prep.
