Why do plants have more dead tissue than animals?

Plants do not move, so they need a lot of mechanical support, which is efficiently provided by dead, thick-walled tissues like sclerenchyma and most of the xylem. This also requires less energy to maintain.

What is the utility of tissues in multicellular organisms?

Tissues allow division of labour — each tissue is specialised for one job (conduction, support, movement, covering), so the organism as a whole works more efficiently, and each part can grow, repair, and function better.

How is simple permanent tissue different from complex permanent tissue?

Simple permanent tissue is made of only one type of cell (parenchyma, collenchyma, sclerenchyma). Complex permanent tissue (xylem, phloem) is made of more than one type of cell that function together as a unit, mainly for conduction.

Why are voluntary muscles also called skeletal or striated muscles?

They are mostly attached to the bones of the skeleton (skeletal), they show alternate light and dark bands or striations under the microscope (striated), and their movement is under our conscious control (voluntary).
